In this course, we will deal with the broad development of the internal and external language history of Dutch. We will start with Indo-European and end with Dutch in the 20th century. The course is set up chronologically, and we will first cover the language external developments, followed by an overview of the main developments within the language itself. Based on the diachronic development, we will also touch upon synchronic (mostly regional) variation within the language community.
The exact structure and schedule of the lecture will be communicated via Canvas.
