Je hebt 'Identities in Literature in English' gevolgd, alvorens dit vak op te nemen. Je volgt ook gelijktijdig 'Literatuur en intermedialiteit' of bent daar al voor geslaagd. Als je een verkort programma volgt, kan je dit vak zo opnemen.

Inhoud

This course focuses on genre and media innovation in literature in English, with an emphasis on literature from the late nineteenth, twentieth, and/or twenty-first centuries. It studies how literary authors innovate or combine genres, develop new writing styles and write for 'new' media such as radio and film.

This course is taught in English. 

A reading list will be made available on Canvas before the start of the course. It is essential that students prepare for class by reading the assigned texts ahead of time and that they participate in the class discussions.

The course is taught alternately by Prof. Birgit Van Puymbroeck and Prof. Janine Hauthal. The content may vary from year to year, with a focus on modernist or postmodernist texts depending on the year. It is possible that some classes are taught by guest lecturers.

1. Students have in-depth knowledge of a specific field of study, namely modernist and/or postmodernist literature in English (selected authors and texts). 

2. Students have insight in genre and media developments in literature in English. 

3. Students are able to analyse literary texts critically and independently, especially with regard to genre and media innovation. 

4. Students are able to communicate their insights in correct academic English. 

Beoordelingsinformatie

De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
Examen Mondeling bepaalt 80% van het eindcijfer

ZELF Paper bepaalt 20% van het eindcijfer

Binnen de categorie Examen Mondeling dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Examen Mondeling met een wegingsfactor 80 en aldus 80% van het totale eindcijfer.

Binnen de categorie ZELF Paper dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Paper met een wegingsfactor 20 en aldus 20% van het totale eindcijfer.

Regarding the paper (20%): 

  • No submission or late submission will result in 0/20 for the paper.
  • For this task, it is permitted to use generative AI only for brainstorming. Any use of generative AI should be properly referenced.
