Course Content

This course focuses on the historical developments in the modern times of the long 19th century, taking the genre of the novella (short story) as its point of departure. Attention is paid to the evolution of the novella as a genre during that period, and to the interaction of that genre with the tension between revolution and restauration that especially in the German and Austrian regions has characterised the 19th century.
