The course investigates the relation between genre developments and intermedial forms in the time around 1800 (Aufklärung, Sturm und Drang, Klassik und Romantik). The focus lies on the changes within drama and poetry.
The course is completely taught in German.
The students are expected to prepare each week the selected texts on the program and to engage in the discussions. They are given questions in advance, so as to facilitate the preparation and the discussion. Course attendance is therefore necessary.
Each student individually prepares a presentation of min. 20 minutes on a text by choice of the program, with a close reading of selected fragments. The preparation of the presentation is handed in at least 3 days before class. The student incorporates the feedback of the lecturer before giving the presentation in class.
The students:
- can formulate their insights into the literary and cultural developments around 1800;
- can analyse literary texts in relation to genre developments and intermedial forms;
- can give a presentation of 20 minutes of a literary analysis in a logical, insightful and interactive way, in correct German on an advanced level.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 20% of the final mark.
LEC Presentation determines 30% of the final mark.

The weekly preparation and participation are considered as formative evaluation.
The oral presentation is considered as formative and summative evaluation.
The exam component "oral presentation" cannot be transferred to the second exam period. The results for this exam component are transferred to the second exam period.
The students have to pass all exam categories in order to pass the exam as a whole.
