Course Content

Predominately a reading of classic Italian authors, from the 14th to 20th century.
-    14th century: Dante Alighieri, Commedia (extracts) and narrative poetry.
-    19th-20th century: author and work to be determined.

Vengono affrontati prevalentemente scrittori classici della letteratura italiana, dal Trecento al Novecento.

- Trecento: Dante Alighieri, Commedia (un insieme di canti) e la poesia narrativa.

- Ottocento-Novecento:  scrittore da definire.

Additional info

Students are expected to complete weekly preparation of texts and assignments. These are always discussed during the lectures.

The seminars will also include four to six hours given by an international guest lecturer. 

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

The students can characterize and analyse classic Italian literature from a linguistic, rhetorical, metrical or narratological and thematic perspective.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 40% of the final mark.
Written Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Practical Exam determines 10% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Texts, personal reading with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 40% of the final mark.

    Note: Closed questions about the texts covered in the lectures. Open questions and comprehension questions about individual reading.
    Students must participate to all categories within one academic year because the content of the course varies yearly.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Texts, exercises(papers) with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: The students are required to submit a first draft of the assignments during the semester and they will receive feedback on it. The final submission of the assignments will be in the period prior to the examination.

Within the Practical Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Preparation and collaboration with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 10% of the final mark.

    Note: Attendance to the weekly classes and discussions is required.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Weekly attendance in the lectures is required and will be evaluated.

The first drafts of the exercises will be evaluated during the semester.

Students have to succeed in all parts of the evaluation procedure in order to obtain a pass mark for the whole course.

Student who fail to participate in all the parts of the evaluation procedure will be automatically marked as "absent".

Students can transfer to the next exam session the results of those parts of the evaluation process for which they have obtained a pass mark. These result can not be transferred to the following academic year.

At the oral exam, the students are granted with preparation time
