Course Content

The course intends to offer a first, targeted examination of linguistic topics, parallel to the development of the students' proficiency in Italian. It aims in particular to stimulate the development of specific reading and writing skills in the framework of the academic programme of Languages and Literature. The following aspects will be discussed:

- the simple sentence, with special attention to parsing, verbal valency and the use of impersonal, pronominal and passive structures;

- the syntax of complex sentences, with special attention to the use of mood and to the semantics of subordinating conjunctions in adverbial clauses;

- text grammar, with special attention to the use of connectives as a means to express semantic relations within texts.
