Aanbieding 1 met studiegidsnummer 1021041BER voor alle studenten in het 1e semester met een verdiepend bachelor niveau.
Dit opleidingsonderdeel bestaat uit twee luiken: 1) hoorcollege en 2) werkcollege.
1) In het hoorcollege maken studenten kennis met de geschiedenis en de cultuur/culturen van Spanje en Latijns-Amerika. De keuze van de thema’s wordt bepaald door volgende vraag: welke culturele elementen worden binnen de Spaanstalige gemeenschap beschouwd als evidente items van algemene kennis. De kennis die de studenten langs deze weg opdoen over de (overlappende) geschiedenis van het Iberisch Schiereiland en het Zuid-Amerikaanse continent zal hen in staat stellen om de hedendaagse samenleving in een historisch perspectief te plaatsen. De thema’s worden besproken aan de hand van een gestructureerde PowerPoint-presentatie en verder aangevuld met teksten en (bewegende) beelden.
2) In het werkcollege wordt verder gewerkt op de inhoud en de inzichten uit het hoorcollege. Er wordt aandacht besteed aan interculturele verschillen in vergelijking met de eigen cultuur (i.c. Vlaamse/Brusselse achtergrond) en er wordt ook nagedacht over de vertaling van culturele elementen (Spaans-Nederlands). De opdrachten zijn erop gericht om ook de productieve vaardigheden te versterken. Binnen de mondelinge taalvaardigheid komen communicatieve opdrachten aan bod zoals discussies en presentaties over thema’s rond Spaanse en Latijns-Amerikaanse (cultuur)geschiedenis. Binnen de schriftelijke taalvaardigheid komen zowel korte als uitgebreide schrijfopdrachten aan bod.
Deze cursus wordt gegeven op het niveau (hoog) B2. Dat betekent dat de student
- een uitgebreid scala van (behoorlijk complexe) teksten kan begrijpen over onderwerpen die te maken hebben met de cursus;
- duidelijke, gedetailleerde beschrijvingen kan presenteren over onderwerpen die te maken hebben met de cursus;
- duidelijke, gedetailleerde teksten schrijven over onderwerpen die te maken hebben met de cursus waarbij informatie en/of een specifiek standpunt efficiënt wordt/worden overgebracht.
Esta asignatura consta de dos partes: 1) conferencia y 2) seminario.
1) En las conferencias, los estudiantes aprenderán sobre la historia y la(s) cultura(s) de España y de América Latina. La elección de los temas se determina por la siguiente pregunta: ¿Cuáles son los elementos que son considerados ‘de cultura general’ dentro de la comunidad hispana? Los conocimientos adquiridos sobre la historia de la península ibérica y del continente sudamericano permitirán a los estudiantes analizar la sociedad contemporánea desde una perspectiva histórica. Los estudiantes tendrán a su disposición una presentación PowerPoint estructurada y otros textos e imágenes (en movimiento).
2) En los seminarios se profundizará en los temas tratados en las conferencias. Se prestará atención a las diferencias culturales en comparación con la propia cultura (i.c. la cultura flamenca / de Bruselas). También se prestará atención a la traducción de referencias culturales (español-neerlandés). Las tareas están diseñadas para mejorar las destrezas productivas. Asi, por ejemplo, se organizarán discusiones y presentaciones sobre temas relacionados con la historia (cultural) de España y de Latinoamérica (producción oral). Los estudiantes también tendrán que escribir textos cortos y más elaborados (producción escrita).
Para seguir la asignatura, los estudiantes tienen que tener un nivel de B2 (alto). Esto significa que los estudiantes son capaces de
- comprender una amplia gama de textos (bastante complejos) sobre temas relacionados con el curso;
- presentar descripciones claras y detalladas sobre temas relacionados con el curso;
- elaborar textos bien escritos y detallados sobre temas relacionados con el curso en los que la información y/o el punto de vista son transmitidos de manera eficaz.
This course consists of two parts: 1) lectures and 2) seminars.
1) In the lecture sessions, students will learn about the history and culture(s) of Spain and Latin America. The choice of topics is determined by the following question: Which elements are considered ‘general culture’ within the Hispanic community? The knowledge acquired about the history of the Iberian Peninsula and the South American continent will enable students to analyse contemporary society from a historical perspective. Students will have access to structured PowerPoint presentations and other texts and (moving) images.
2) In the seminars, the topics covered in the lecture sessions will be explored in more depth. Attention will be paid to cultural differences in comparison to one’s own culture (i.e. Flemish/Brussels culture). Attention will also be paid to the translation of cultural references (Spanish-Dutch). The tasks are designed to improve productive skills. Thus, for example, discussions and presentations will be organised about topics related to the (cultural) history of Spain and Latin America (oral production). Students will also have to write short and more elaborate texts (written production).
To follow the course, students have to have a level of B2 (high). This means that students are able to
- understand a wide range of (fairly complex) texts on topics related to the course;
- present clear and detailed descriptions of course-related topics;
- produce well-written, detailed texts on course-related topics in which information and/or a specific point of view is conveyed effectively.

- kunnen de hedendaagse samenleving in een historisch perspectief plaatsen;
- leren interculturele verschillen duiden tussen de Spaanstalige culturen en de eigen Vlaamse en/of Brusselse socio-culturele achtergrond;
- doen kennis op over (de vertaling van) verschillende culturele elementen.

De student heeft kennis verworven over de geschiedenis en de verschillende culturele kenmerken van het Iberisch Schiereiland en het Zuid-Amerikaanse continent. De student is in staat om de geschiedenis en de verschillende culturele kenmerken verder toe te lichten en te vergelijken met de situatie in Vlaanderen/Brussel/België.

Los estudiantes tienen conocimientos sobre las diferentes características culturales y sobre la historia de la península ibérica y del continente sudamericano. Los estudiantes son capaces de hablar con conocimiento sobre la historia y las diferentes características culturales. También son capaces de comparar con la situación en Flandes / Bruselas / Bélgica.
FINAL OBJECTIVES
Students have knowledge of the different cultural aspects of the Iberian Peninsula and the South American continent. Students are able to speak knowledgeably about the history and the different cultural aspects. They are also able to compare the situation in Flanders / Brussels / Belgium.

De evaluatie bestaat uit de volgende elementen:
- 60% mondeling examen (hoorcolleges)
- 40% permanente evaluatie (seminaries)
Om een eindcijfer te krijgen in de eerste zittijd moet een student aan beide evaluatie-onderdelen deelnemen. Om te slagen voor de cursus moet een student slagen voor zowel het mondeling examen als de permanente evaluatie.
In de tweede zittijd behoudt een student het cijfer voor het onderdeel waarvoor een voldoende (>50%) werd behaald in de eerste zittijd. De student legt het onderdeel waarvoor geen voldoende (<50%) werd behaald opnieuw af.
In de tweede zittijd wordt de permanente evaluatie vervangen door een uitgebreid essay over een (aantal) afgesproken onderwerp(en): opzoekingswerk, teksten schrijven, standpunt formuleren, dossier presenteren, in debat treden over het onderwerp/de onderwerpen. De verdeling blijft dezelfde: 60% mondeling examen + 40% essay.
La evaluación consiste en los siguientes elementos:

Para obtener una nota al final del curso el estudiante el estudiante debe presentarse a ambas partes del examen. Para aprobar la asignatura el estudiante debe aprobar tanto el examen oral como la evaluación permanente.
En la segunda convocatoria el estudiante conserva la nota de la parte que ha aprobado en la primera convocatoria (un 50% o más). El estudiante repite la parte que no ha aprobado (menos de un 50%).
En la segunda convocatoria la evaluación permanente será sustituido por un ensayo extenso sobre un(os) tema(s) acordado(s): trabajo de investigación, redacción de textos, formulación de puntos de vista, presentación del ensayo, debatir sobre el (los) tema(s). La distribución no cambia: un 60% examen oral + un 40% ensayo.
The evaluation consists of the following elements:

In order to obtain a final grade, the student must participate in both parts. In order to pass the course, the student must pass both the oral exam and the permanent evaluation.
In the second exam session, the student retains the score for the part for which a pass grade (>50%) was achieved in the first exam session. The student must retake the part for which no pass grade (<50%) was achieved.
In the second exam session, the continuous assessment is replaced by an extensive essay on a (number of) topic(s): doing research, writing texts, formulating viewpoints, presenting the essay, debating about the topic(s). The distribution remains the same: 60% oral exam + 40% essay.
