Course Content

The course consists of three units.

A. A legal survey of media law, focusing primarily on the protection of press freedom and the limits of that freedom.

B. An introduction to professional ethics in journalism.

C. An outline of the fiscal, social-law and administrative duties of the journalist.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

Students should be able to take account, on an independent basis, of the legal rules relevant to the practice of the profession, and of the limits of press freedom. They also gain insight into the journalist's social law, fiscal and administrative status. Finally, they develop the habit of constantly assessing their professional behaviour against the ethical rules of the profession.

In addition, students will: (1) be able to establish connections between the knowledge and insights gained from the above approaches and also create new links with the knowledge acquired in training.

(2) be able to make their own academic contribution to the field of journalism studies , using one or more of the above approaches.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Oral exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.
