Course Content

This is an academic language course. The focus is on the further development of both receptive skills (reading, listening) and oral and written skills necessary to follow a university course taught in English/French. The course also includes remediation for a number of grammatical items.

During the first lesson, the precise modalities of the content, the evaluation criteria, the organisation and the course are explained and provided via a vade mecum. The vade mecum thus contains all concrete information and is a binding document.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

This course aims to help students to further develop both their communicative ability and their general proficiency in English/French. The focus is on developing the skills needed to perform well in English/French in an academic context, with particular attention paid to reading more complex texts.

By the end of the course, students should be able  to follow more complex argumentation in written and spoken English/French.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Examen Schriftelijk with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Presentatie en Schriftelijk examen

Additional info regarding evaluation

The students have to be present at least 80% of the contact moments. The evaluation is partly done via continuous evaluation. Participation in all test and examination components (in relation to the continuous evaluation) is compulsory in order to obtain a final score.

To obtain a final grade, a student has to participate in the evaluation parts of English and French. To pass the course, the student must pass both languages. Students who do not pass each of the sub-components can obtain a maximum of 9.

In the second exam session, the various evaluation components are combined into an oral and written exam. The distance projects are continued and/or replaced by a task.
