This course is the continuation of Chinese Proficiency 2. Students continue to develop in all four areas of language skills (i.e. speaking, listening, reading and writing), within which a strong emphasis is placed on the development of speaking skills. At the end of the course, students should master a minimal vocabulary of 600 characters (combined in approximately 900 words) and intermediate to advanced grammatical constructions.
Prerequisite: students must first pass Chinese Proficiency II to take this course. Alternatively, the can be allowed to join based on an assessment test by the teacher.

This course requires an estimated total of 185 study hours, including lecturing time, class practice and self-study. This course offers 4 contact hours per week and covers the whole academic year. Attendance is strongly encouraged to guarantee positive learning outcomes.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will have developed the following language skills in Mandarin Chinese:
Oral:
• Students have a fluent Chinese Mandarin pronunciation
• Students are able to express emotion, worries, hopes etc.
• Students are able talk about a large range of topics
• Students can correctly use intermediate and advanced constructions, such as compound verbs of direction, the 把 construction,verb comments, consecutive actions and several specific Chinese expressive constructions
• Students can construct arguments in debate on a selection of complicated topics, such as gender equality, work-life balance, technology, consumerism, society etc.
Written:
• Students can recognise and read 600 characters of the HSK 3 level.
• Students can write 600 characters of the HSK 3 level and apply them in written sentences.
• Students are able read and interact fluently with texts consisting of HSK 3 vocabulary exclusively with Chinese characters.
De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
Examen Mondeling bepaalt 80% van het eindcijfer
Examen Andere bepaalt 20% van het eindcijfer

Exams in August or September: Permanent evaluation transferred from previous semesters (30%) and an oral exam (70%).
The permanent evaluation consists of weekly writing assignments
The practical assignment consists of:
- series of 5 video logs (1st semester)
- making a short film in Chinese, group assignment (2nd semester)
Examens in Augustus of September: permanente evaluatie overgedragen van voorbije semester (30%). Huidige evaluatie op basis van mondeling examen (70%)
Permanente evaluatie bestaat uit wekelijkse schrijfopdrachten en semester opdrachten, met name:
- serie van 5 video logs maken (1e semester)
- kortfilm maken in het Chinees, groepsopdracht (2e semester)
