Offer 1 with catalog number 4021416ENR for all students in the 1st and 2nd semester at a (E) Master - advanced level.
The practical training has the following aims:
1. a research-related training (e.g in preparation of a future PhD) by, for example, participating in collecting, processing, analysing and interpreting data in the frame of study on intermediality, intertextuality or other literature-related contents;
2. an education-related practical training in, for instance, a multilingual school, or a European School.
3. an institution-related practical training in, for instance, a multilingual institution, company or cultural association.
Extra expenses incurred in the frame of the practical training (travel expenses etc.) cannot be covered by VUB and must be paid by students themselves.
Through the practical training, students acquire the following competencies:
MA1: The master displays an open and critical attitude and is capable of honing the already existing open attitude and critical mind. He/she shows a scientifically substantiated attitude in different cultural and multilingual contexts.
MA2: The master is scientifically autonomous and can do fundamental and applied research on the level of a starter-researcher.
MA5: The master disposes of entrepreneurial skills and is able to autonomously become proficient in a number of practical skills specific to the national and international labor market.
MA7: Conscious of the intercultural society that the master lives in, he/she understands the importance of language and language sensitivity. In particular, in the international and specific Brussels context, he/ she has further insights into the effects of globalisation on languages and into new conclusions regarding local languages and/or insights into the contribution of literature to a reflection upon daily life.
MA12: The master can make the link between research and the social applications in the broader work field of linguistics and/or literary studies.
MA14: The master is proficient in the chosen languages, namely the language in which the MA paper is composed: level C2 for Dutch, English and French, and level C1 for Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish in the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" for comprehension (listening and reading), speaking (production and interaction) and writing.

The final mark for this course is determined on the basis of the evaluation of the written report which has to be submitted after completion of the practical training. Further details on the contents and the lay-out of the report will be made available at the beginning of the training.
