Course Content

Students are guided through the process of writing their masterthesis

• Literature search and literature review

• Datacollection: quantitative and qualitative

• Data analysis

• Reporting

• Formulating discussion and conclusion

 

Thematic and methodological lectures and workshops are organized where students participate in function of their own research. These sessions are organized by 1) experienced researchers who can formulate experience-based answers where students are confronted with in the course of their own research process, and 2) student themselves who have the assignment to specialise themselves in one part of the research (e.g. research questions, analysing with MaxQDA, writing an abstract). Attention is also paid to the exchange of experiences and different learning and research strategies.

  • The student can critically monitor, evaluate and adjust the own thesis process
  • The student can critically monitor, evaluate and adjust the other students’ thesis process
  • The student can critically evaluate its thesis products, compare it with other students and thereupon ameliorate his thesis.
  • The student can critically evaluate the thesis products of fellow-students, and formulate suggestions for change and improvement.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
LEC Presentation determines 30% of the final mark.
PRAC Teamwork determines 50% of the final mark.
PRAC Practical Assignment determines 20% of the final mark.

Within the LEC Presentation category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Lectures with a relative weight of 30 which comprises 30% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Workshops with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Practical Assignment category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Field visit + one-pager with a relative weight of 20 which comprises 20% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

1.    Continuous evaluation: presence@lectures (30%)
2.    Continuous evaluation: workshops (50%)
3.    Practical visit + one pager (20%)

 

In accordance with the Education and Examination Regulations 2019-2020 'Absence from a mandatory part of the evaluation leads to an absence as result code'.
The partial result of the separate assignments is automatically transferred to the second term if the result is at least 10/20. A student who wishes to resume one of the assignments sends an e-mail to the teacher by 10 July at the latest.
The partial results of the individual assignments are not transferable to the next academic year.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
