Course Content

In this learning activity you will learn to apply the theoretical frameworks related to aforementioned topics (gender-related care, chronic care, urgent care, short episode care, practice management, prevention, palliative care, care for the child, care for the elderly patient, menta health care and somatic unexplained physical complaints) in an integrated way, with attention for the following generic aspects:

  • interprofessional collaboration;
  • clinical decision making and evidence based medicine;
  • consultation and communication skills,
  • electronic health record (EHR);
  • diversity.

Combination of self-study, lectures, interactive sessions and group/individual assignments. The expected learning activities are described in an online learning environment.

 

During plenary and interactive sessions, the theoretical frameworks related to the aforementioned clinical-medical topics (see learning outcomes) are discussed and applied. These contact sessions focus on the application of knowledge in the daily practice of the general practitioner. During these sessions the students are encouraged to further discover and deepen their own learning needs through various formative evaluations (assignments, collaboration during the sessions, take home, ...).

Algemene competenties

In this course the student deepens the theoretical frameworks taught in year 1 and 2. The topics or themes (gender-related care, chronic care, urgent care, short episode care, practice management, prevention, palliative care, care for the child, care for the elderly patient, menta health care and somatic unexplained physical complaints) are offered in an integrated way, with attention for the following generic aspects:

 

  • interprofessional collaboration;
  • clinical decision making and evidence based medicine;
  • consultation and communication skills,
  • electronic health record (EHR);
  • diversity.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Schriftelijk examen with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The final assessment is done by means of an oral test, during which the student has an interview with an inter-university jury based on five cases that the student selects and prepares himself.

The student is tested for his/her familiarity with current insights from literature and the field, and his/her general practitioner medical performance. As a guideline for this assessment, the Canmeds roles are used.

There is a mandatory attendance of 80% during the contact moments. Failure to meet this requirement means that he/she will not be allowed to participate in the oral test in the first examination period.
