Course Content

The course includes three parts:

  1. A transversal part dealing with article 23 of the Belgian Constitution and the Charter of the social insured;
  2. Social insurances for the self-employed: pensions, sickness, invalidity and maternity, bridging right and benefits fostering a better life-work balance of the self-employed.
  3. Social assistance: minimum income benefits for the elderly and disabled people and the social integration right.

This course will be exceptionally taught by Quentin Detienne during the academic year 2022-2023.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

By the end of this course, students have obtained a more detailed knowledge and comprehension of the legal foundations of the Belgian social security system through the study of essential parts of which have not been dealth with in the basic course of social security law.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written Exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Exam questions evaluate to what extent students are able to reproduce and explain the material for the examination and to make use of this material.

Students are allowed to use codes. Underlining and  making of cross-references are allowed. Codes may not be annotated. The use of annotated codes will not be allowed during the exam.
