This course examines the historical and comparative dimensions and impact of education on global development, encompassing themes of relevance to Ministries of Education, global agencies, international NGOs, and regional associations. Students will examine the connection between the Sustainable Development Goals and the challenges faced by education practitioners in formal and non-formal sectors vertically (considering top-down policies and measurements) and horizontally (considering bottom-up teacher networks and community education entities).
The course is aligned with European competency frameworks in its thorough examination of digital, social, subject-matter, and interdisciplinary learning; provides multiple perspectives to challenges; requires high-standards of data analysis through multiple research methods; and expects publishable-quality writing, and conference-quality presentations.
• Students shall produce new or original work by designing, assembling, constructing, and developing a unique, multi sector approach to education and global development
• Students shall justify a stand or decision based upon evidentiary material and weigh evidence accordingly, keeping in mind a bias codex
• Students shall draw connections between interdisciplinary ideas by differentiating approaches and comparing/contrasting comparative education data and political inclination in light of country historical narratives
• Students will use information in new situations by hypothesizing approaches based upon research and both independent and collaborative inquiry
• Students will be able to explain ideas or concepts to uninitiated parties and stakeholders
• Students will be able to recall facts and basic concepts in a scaffold they can use to examine unfamiliar contexts and weight approaches in terms of challenges and opportunities they shall
face as professionals in the field of Education Science.

Students will explore extensive readings in key themes and assemble their own; create and update a magazine of articles for public consumption in the form of an online magazine; interview professionals in the field; write an editorial; and conduct a collaborative research study.
