6 ECTS credits
150 h study time
Offer 1 with catalog number 6021714ENR for all students in the 1st and 2nd semester at a (E) Master - advanced level.
Lecture with introduction to EBM and illustration of good information sources - 2 hours.
Practical exercises:
The concept of blended learning is applied for the practical exercises. The "Think-Pair-Share" technique will be used to support students in their preparatory work via online tools on the one hand and to coach students during the practice sessions on the other hand.
In total, 4 assignments must be carried out, which are spread across 2 years (2 assignments per year). The assignments can be carried out in small groups (maximum 5 people) within their own specialism or individually.
Each exercise consists of:
- “Think”: A period of self-study (8 am - noon): each student works individually, immerses himself in the subject of the exercise with the help of the curriculum offered, and prepares the assignment individually
- "Pair": A WPO session (2 hours) in which the students sit together in their groups and continue to work on their assignment together. Support is given by the teacher if necessary.
- "Share": A WPO session (2 hours) in which the groups briefly present their assignment to their fellow students. Feedback and reflection is given by the teacher.
The dates of the WPO sessions will be announced via Canvas.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Practical Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Within the Practical Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
For each assignment, a short PowerPoint presentation needs to be submitted (per group or by the individual student if he or she works alone) by a previously announced submission date. This is an absolute requirement in order to pass for an assignment. Submitting an assignment is done by sending an e-mail to the professor (filip.cools@uzbrussel.be), who always returns a confirmation of receipt.
A student needs to attend at least 75% of the WPO sessions. This means a student is able to miss 1 of the 4 WPO sessions per academic year. Absence must, if possible in advance, be reported to the teacher and the secretarial office, and must be substantiated with the necessary justification documents (medical certificate, certificate by the internship supervisor, death notice).
Legal absences are possible when due to:
- Medical reasons
- Maternity leave
- Family reasons: death of a )blood) relative in the first degree (parents and/or children) or in the second degree (grandparents, grandchildren and/or brother/sister), or of a person domiciled under the same roof.
- Force majeure on the service, with a certificate by the internship supervisor
A student who has not attended at least 75% of the WPO sessions, receives an AFW (absent) and needs to complete the course in the second examination period.
Permanent evaluation (attendance at the WPO sessions, active participation in the sessions, respecting deadlines): 20%
4 assignments that count for 20% each.
