Course Content

Enhancement of the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and prognosis of diseases mentioned in “level expert”.  

The ASO is theoretically further instructed in a broad array of domains within the specialism, necessary for the applications in practice that are mentioned during internships and relate to the final objectives as defined under “physician” basic education.  

Verdieping van de diagnose, behandeling, preventie en prognose van de ziektebeelden vermeld in "niveau expert".  

​De ASO verdiept zich theoretisch verder in een breed aantal domeinen binnen het specialisme nodig voor de toepassingen in de praktijk die vermeld worden in de stages en betrekking hebben op de eindtermen zoals gedefinieerd onder “medicus” basisopleiding.

WORKING METHODS 

  • Interactive seminars: (at least 1x/week, 1h) organized within the domain of attention of the internship; these are weekly postgraduate sessions from the department of Internal Medicine (attendance is required for at least 80% of all meetings) 

  • MOC: 1x/week, 1h of multidisciplinary oncological consult 

  • LOK: 4x/year half a day of local quality groups (LOK is a group of colleague physicians or pharmacists-biologists who share their medical practicing and critically evaluate to improve the quality of care).  

  • Advanced courses in internal medicine: 4x/year, 1 day organized ny the Belgian Association for Internal Medicine 

  • Journal clubs: 1x/week, 1h of journal club in Internal Medicine and sister specialties

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
SELF Presentation determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Portfolio with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: portfolio met functioneringsgesprekken en evaluatiegesprek aan het einde van het niveau expert (50 %)

Within the SELF Presentation category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Presentatie casus with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: Casus examen : met casuspresentatie voor een jury (50 %)

Additional info regarding evaluation

  • Portfolio with performance interviews and assessment interview a t the end, level expert (50%).  

  • Case exam with case presentation for a jury (50%). 

PASS/FAIL: FAIL for 1 part = FAIL for the whole course
