During the education, the ASO is given the chance to practice a wide array of domains within the specialism. During these internships, the ASO acquires specific knowledge and skills as mentioned in the VLIR document (level expert plus) and applies these in practice.
The following procedural skill will be covered:
Electrocardiography (+ evaluation
Basic life support
Arterial puncture
Vena puncture
Collect material for microbiological investigation
Pleura puncture
Ascites puncture
Insert gavage
Insert bladder tube
Intubation
Insert deep-venous lines
Insert arterial line
Lumbar puncture
WORKING METHODS
The final objectives are met in practice through:
Multidisciplinary meetings (1h/week)
Staff meetings in the area of attention (1h/week)
Case discussions
Room tour
Sessions for technical skills (skills lab and supervised skills)
Supervised consultation
OLR 2: Has acquired the skills, inherent to the specialism, and applies these correctly (M).
OLR 17: Keeps further developing and improving own skills (M).
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Portfolio with performance interviews and assessment interview at the end, level expert plus (100%).
