Course Content

Apart from the (pre-)analytical phases of the lab analyses, the post-analytical phase is very important in contributing to adequate diagnostics and treatment of the patient. 

During the internships, the ASO will be involved in the review of results, the authorization for release, the reporting and transmission of validated results (including the necessary interpretation) to the corresponding recipients, the storage and archiving and/or removal of samples, including medical informatics aspects at the level of the individual prescriber, the institution and the online medical file.  

Adequate liaisons with colleagues in- and outside the institution: the ASO will demonstrate an open attitude towards health care providers, team members and colleagues.  

Give advice regarding the selection of laboratory analyses for diagnostics and monitoring of the treatment of patients.  

Moreover, the ASO will learn to communicate in a multidisciplinary environment on discipline-bound topics: 

  • Empathic attitude towards patients and their family 

  • Informed consent regarding analyses and treatment towards patients and their family, check to what extent the provided information is understood 

  • Communication and knowledge on specific aspects of patient rights and legislation concerning unwilling patients

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Portfolio with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.
