Course Content
  1. Content “Case discussion” 

During these sessions, practical cases are presented and (interdisciplinary) discussed in team. Attention is paid to emergencies and diagnostic problems. The subjects that are covered are those from the internships and relate to the final objectives as defined under “physician” level expert.  

  1. “Patient care” 

The ASO is given the chance to practice a wide array of domains within the specialism during the education. During these internships, the ASO acquires specific knowledge and skills and applies these in practice.  

Preferential internships during the education of Neurology are: 

  • Admission department and stroke unit 

  • Consultative neurology, including emergency neurology and neuro-intensive care 

  • Polyclinic: general and specialist (headache, epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders, memory clinic, multiple sclerosis, neuro-oncology, neuromuscular syndromes) 

  • Neurophysiology: EEG, 24h EEG, EMG, evoked potentials, central motoric conduction, doppler investigation neck- and transcranial blood vessels 

Optional internships are the following: 

  • Child neurology 

  • Neurosurgery 

  • Neuropathology 

  • Neuroradiology 

  • Internal Medicine 

  • Psychiatry

The final objectives are met in practice with:

  • Bedside teaching (1-2h/week)

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Portfolio with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.
