Course Content

Learn to communicate in a multidisciplinary environment on discipline-related topics:  

  • Empathic attitude towards the patient and their family 

  • Necessary communication to gather relevant information and assess the situation, taking into account the patient’s course of life, social and cultural background, religion and major life events 

  • Open attitude towards healthcare providers, team members and colleagues 

  • Specific aspects of ‘bad-news-conversations’ with special attention to the experience from the patient’s/family’s point of view and assessing wishes, questions and the need for information.  

  • Informed consent towards the patient and their family regarding the treatment, check to what extent the provided information is understood. 

  • Implementation of possibilities to communicate with an unwilling patient; rights of an unwilling patient’s family. 

  • Specific aspects of communication on therapy-limiting measures and on the end of life with special attention to the experience from the patient’s/family’s point of view and assessing wishes, questions and the need for information. 

  • Communication and knowledge on specific aspects of patient rights and legislation concerning unwilling patients. 

The ASO is to operate with increasing independence and complexity.
