Learning Pathway Vision

The first chapter briefly outlines the history of Belgian education. The emphasis is on the ideological issues concerning our education. In the second chapter the main principles of our education system - compulsory education, the neutrality of public education, freedom of education and the free education of compulsory education - are explained. The third chapter describes the school outcomes among students in Flemish education in an international, comparative perspectives. The subsequent chapters present several theoretical explanations for these observed differences. The final chapter is a casestudy on the topic of school attendance and it's related problems. Furthermore, this course also aims to make teachers aware of the impact of the European Union on the economic, social and political level and on the lives of citizens in Europe, and education in particular. They acquire a basic knowledge of the European Union, the functioning of the European institutions, the freedoms in the European Union, and European policy, each time applied within an educational framework.

The students acquire the contents through 6 lessons.

  • On campus Etterbeek the lectures on sociology and policy of education are organised on campus. The European and legal frameworks are provided digitally.
  • On campuses Anderlecht, Diest and Leuven the lectures are organised online.
