Offer 1 with catalog number 1022081BNR for all students in the 1st and 2nd semester at a (B) Bachelor - advanced level.
In translation I students have gained insight into translation.
Translation II is a two-part course: part 1 translation into Dutch and part 2 translation into English.
This course takes a comparative approach to language-focused instruction. Dutch and English will be contrasted through carefully chosen translation tasks.
Focus is on the problem-solving process and strategies for dealing with practical translation problems. The emphasis is on the process and product of translation.
semester 1: English-Dutch
semester 2: Dutch-English
Students will acquire the skills necessary to deal with a wide range of practical translation problems; develop a self-awareness of what they do when they translate, how they do it and why they do it one way rather than another.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
The written exam consists of 2 parts : (1) a translation into Dutch and (2) a translation into English.
Students cannot pass this course if they obtain a mark of 8/20 or less for either (1) the translation into Dutch or (2) the translation into English. The lowest mark is the module mark.
If a student passes one part but fails the other then the final mark in the second examination session will correspond to the total average of that part for which the student successfully passed in the first examination period and that part for which a written exam was held during the second session. If a student again scores less than 8/20 for one part , the lowest mark is then the final mark.
