a. Language-specific module
This module includes the following activities:
- Consecutive interpreting
- Simultaneous interpretation
- Two-way communication exercises
- Sight translation
- Oral summaries
b. Cross-language module
This module includes the following activities:
- Professional practice and deontology
- Live subtitling
- Remote interpreting
- Mock conferences
- Court interpreting
Participation in the interpreting workshops is compulsory. Unjustified absence in more than 25% of the practical lessons (i.e., 3 cross-language or language-specific interpreting workshops) implies a refusal of admission to the exams.
Motivation
Presence during the workshops is not only obligatory, it is also necessary in order to perform successfully on the exam. During the interpreting workshops, interpreting skills are taught systematically, the student receives personalized feedback and learns how to use interpreting technology. The students is expected to be responsible for his.her own learning process of which the classes form an essential part. Furthermore, the student is responsible for the successful progress of the workshops. The presence of every student is required to organize the numerous group activities that will take place during the interpreting workshops.
The student is able to provide effective, oral communication with a high degree of specificity in various professional contexts as a multilingual (Spanish and Dutch) communication specialist or as a (court) interpreter.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
The evaluation comprises three different exam parts:
1. Interpreting workshop SPANISH - Consecutive Interpreting and Simultaneous Interpreting - 60% of the total final mark;
2. Court Interpreting - 30% of the total final mark;
3. Live Subtitling - 10% of the total final mark.
In order to pass the course in the first session, the student must pass the exams of the three modules. If the student fails one or more modules, the final mark will be the lowest grade achieved.
Partial results of the exam components can be transferred to the second exam session on the student's official request. This request should be made no later than the last day of the exam period.
In order to pass the course in the second session, the student must pass the exams of both modules.
A student who did not pass the exams of the interpreting workshop in the second examination period and registers again in the next academic year can apply for partial exemptions within a period of five days after the announcement of the results of the second examination period.
The modules of the interpreting workshops are strongly linked together. The partial exemptions for the different modules are granted upon request (see above) and students will not be required to take the exam for the granted exemptions. As a prerequisite, however, the student will have to participate in all the lessons of the interpreting workshop again.
