Offer 1 with catalog number 6023160FNW for working students in the 1st semester at a (F) Master - specialised level.
During the theory lessons, the concepts and topics listed below are explained at an advanced level, as a continuation of the course 'Evidence-based clinical reasoning in manual therapy: lower quadrant' from the Musculoskeletal REVAKI graduation course, manual therapy option, forming the bridge between theory and practice,.
During the practical exercises, students are made aware of the (scientific) foundation of their actions and trained to be critical of choices they make within the diagnostic and therapeutic process. Learned skills should be practiced in practice groups. Gaining experience regarding the search, assessment and implementation of peer reviewed literature is done through group assignments. Through solving cases, the learned knowledge and skills are implemented in a methodical and problem-based manner.
Topics:
Advanced Clinical Reasoning: Screening-Diagnostics-Prognostics-Therapy of nonspecific problems in the region LWK/pelvis/hip/knee/ankle-foot
Advanced Clinical Reasoning: Screening-Diagnosis-Prognosis-Therapy of specific problems in the region LWK/pelvis/hip/hip/knee/ankle-foot
Examination, mobilization and manipulation techniques region LWK/pelvis/hip/hip/knee/ankle-foot
High-complex problems: psychosocial factors, mechanical relationships between LWK/pelvis and lower extremity, co/multimorbidity
Cognitive biases and errors during clinical reasoning
Advanced critical appraisal of primary studies of diagnostic reliability
Advanced critical appraisal and design design of systematic reviews for diagnostic accuracy
Critical appraisal of primary studies on genetic associations
A study manual with background information and preparation and processing assignments is provided separately for the theory lessons and practical exercises.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Practical Exam determines 66% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 34% of the final mark.
Within the Practical Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
The theoretical part is tested in writing via a Critically Appraised Topic on a diagnostic question based on a complex clinical scenario of a case in the region of LWK/pelvis/hip/knee/ankle-foot. Assessment takes place with a grade out of 20.
For the practical part, assessment is oral through the analysis of a case study (diagnosis, prognosis and therapy) with additional assignments on manual therapy skills. Students receive a grade out of 10 for the clinical reasoning part and for the practical skills part; both grades add up to a grade out of 20. If a grade lower than 4/10 is obtained on either part, this will be the final grade for the practical part.
The student passes when the total score on the sum of the practical part and the theory part is at least 10/20. The score of the practical part weighs twice in the calculation of the grade. If a grade lower than 8/20 is obtained on either part, this will be the final grade.
If the student is successful on either part (theoretical or practical part), the grade obtained is carried over to the second term or the next academic year.
Attendance of 80% in practical classes is mandatory to participate in the examination.
