Inhoud

This course offers the student the possibility to participate to a practical project abroad (from 3 weeks to 3 months) in the form of:

- International team assignments supporting entrepreneurs or projects abroad

- Collaborative international advisory/consultancy projects with students from other universities, commissioned by external organizations

The course differs from traditional internships as more autonomy is expected from the students while carrying out their assignment. Guidance during the assignment is offered both from the education team, and, to a lesser extent, the commissioning organization.

Assignments include but are not restricted to: market research, business development, functional analysis of processes, contributing to business planning, contributing to strategy formulation projects, product and service development, setting up monitoring systems and KPIs, … Assignments are defined jointly between the education team, the commissioning organization/partner and then discussed with the students.

Assignments take place within structural framework agreements the VUB has with other external parties (other universities, companies, government institutions, others). During the assignment, in function of the interaction needs, the VUB Education follows up through e-mail, Teams or Whatsapp communication.

Application and selection processes apply; modalities are communicated via e-mail and social media. Information sessions are organized at various moments during the academic year (typically at the start, and at other events e.g. internship and job fairs, information sessions about practical courses, etc.).

When the selected student subscribes for the course, the student declares not being involved in a disciplinary proceeding at the VUB.

Aanvullende info mbt evaluatie

Expected output:

After the assignment, the student is expected to send a main report of minimum 3 000 words including:

- An in-depth description of the company

- A written report about the different tasks executed, including statement of the problem(s) to be solved/analysed, methodology, project management, and description of the main results/achievements.

- A written personal, individual reflection, evaluating the experience in terms of the competences obtained, personal and team challenges encountered, and potential improvements.

- The main report should be complemented by the main outputs of the project (documents, MS PowerPoint Presentations, other outputs) as separate annexes.

The report is to be sent electronically on Canvas

In the case of teamwork, the individual contribution should be clear from the written report. Annexes provided can be joint outputs from the teamwork.

In case of uncertainties, an oral presentation might be demanded by the education team.

Once the students are back from the country of the company, a transfer knowledge meeting is expected between the current students and the next students. Here a PowerPoint is expected as means of presentation.

Evaluation:

The evaluation takes place both formatively and summatively.

Distribution of marks:

·       30% on the process (formative evaluation)

·       70% on the final report (summative evaluation)

The evaluation of the process is based on:

·       Final presentation at the company with presence of an academic team member (physically or online)

·       Satisfaction of the company (a satisfaction survey is sent at the end of the assignment to the company)

·       Functioning in a team and willingness to collaborate (based on observations)

·       Timeliness of reports and other input needed (passport, …)

·       Smooth collaboration within the logistics and administrative processes for the organization of the mobility

·       Professional and proactive behaviour

The evaluation of the final report takes into account:

·       Clear description of the company, so this can be used for next students.

·       Clear description of the problem

·       Quality of the written work (language, layout, correct references)

·       Structure and logical argumentation

·       Critical reflection

No second session is foreseen.

The use of Generative AI:

The use of Generative AI is allowed for certain parts of the assignment.

Based on the AI guidelines of the VUB (version 1):
For the written report, you are only allowed to use Generative AI as a brainstorming tool or as a paraphrasing tool. However, no direct copying of the content is allowed. After the initial search (scientific) sources should be searched for, and the student should carry out his/her own analysis. Written acknowledgment of the use of Generative AI and its magnitude is required. This includes sharing both the prompts used and the results obtained in the appendix.

The student must be very critical while using Generative AI, as the output generated is not always correct and may differ with the same prompt.[FS1] The student must always confirm the information generated by consulting other sources.
