3 ECTS credits
90 h study time
Offer 1 with catalog number 4023282FNR for all students in the 2nd semester at a (F) Master - specialised level.
The course provides an overview of metal biogeochemical cycle in aquatic systems and offers the knowledge of the influencing parameters on metal speciation.
• Introduction of trace element and organometallic compounds.
•_ Poubiax pH and Eh, including definitions of electron activity and redox potential and the relation between pH and pE or Eh
• Trace metal biogeochemistry in estuaries
• Trace metal biogeochemistry in Sediments
• Metal Speciation in environment
• Environmental modelling
For the evaluation of the presentation the scores will be awarded according to
- the respect of instructions (time, structure of the presentation, etc.)
- understanding of the topic and answering student questions
- quality of presentation
For the oral exam the quality of the answer and its relevance will be taken into account.
The student will gain insight in proxies of chemical, biological and geochemical processes occurring in natural systems (mainly on aquatic systems). The students should also learn the biogeochemical cycle of metals and the influencing parameters in various environmental systems. The students will acquire the analytical techniques for metal speciation in environment.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Final exam will be done in an oral way. Students will receive questions from the Professor and will also get 15-20 mins to prepare the answers, afterwards students will meet the Professor to answer the questions.
