Offer 1 with catalog number 3023310ANR for all students in the 1st semester at a (A) Bachelor - preliminary level.
This course is aimed at students that attend a compulsory preparatory traject for a number of dedicated specialized masters in engineering sciences who lack mathematical knowlegde. This course is the first of three parts. In this first part, the more elementary but important topics from real multivariate ananlysis are treated.
Contents
1. Real functions of one variable: uniform continuity, differentials and higher order differentials of functions, de l'Hospital's rule, Taylor's formula.
2. Real multivariate functions: differentiability, total differentials, implicit function theorem, Jacobian determinant.
3. Integration: integral of real functions of one variable, line integral, double integral, surface integral, coordinate transformations, formula of Green-Riemann, theorem of Stokes and formula of Ostrogradsky.
n.a.
The student is acquires knowledge and understanding on elementary and more advanced techniques and results in the field of mathemtaical analysis that are very relevant for engineering sciences. The students knows how to apply the techniques to solve problems. Although the course focuses on problem solving and applying techniques and not on the theoretical framework, the student acquires sufficient understanding of the underlying mathematics to understand under which conditions the applied techniques may lead to a solution of the problem.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 70% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 30% of the final mark.
Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
One written exam with focus on problem solving and application of the acquired knowledge and techniques on mathematical exercises that are relevant for the remaining program of the students (70 %) + permanent evaluation using project work 30%
