Course Content

The aim of the course is to learn the basics of Spanish normative grammar. The course provides exercises on different grammatical topics such as: formación y uso de los tiempos y modos verbales, ser y estar, etc. The theory is applied in many exercises and attention shall also be given to written and spoken skills. The course also includes an introduction to basic terms and concepts related to the phonetics, phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax and semantics of contemporary Spanish.

Study material will be provided over the course of the semester in the lessons or by the means of the learning platform. Additionally, students are required to take notes during the course.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

Students are able to apply the basic rules of Spanish normative grammar

Students are able to recognize and distinguish the different linguistic levels of analysis (phoneme, grapheme, morpheme, word, sentence) and explain and illustrate the key-concepts with examples in Spanish.

Students are able to analyse simple sentences in Spanish and explain the different aspects in the linguistic analysis.

At the end of the course, the student's language proficiency will approach level B1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 80% of the final mark.
Other determines 20% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • examen schriftelijk with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 80% of the final mark.

Within the Other category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • permanente evaluatie with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 20% of the final mark.

    Note: In the second exam session this part is included in the written exam.
