Course Content

1. HOC

During the lectures, clinical syndromes are covered from a (cognitive) neuroscientific perspective. Topics are for example anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders and movement disorders (see Canvas). We will discuss the underlying brain mechanisms of clinical syndromes as well as some biological psychological treatment methods.

2. WPO

Group assignment in which students learn to critically reflect upon a clinical issue from a (cognitive) neuroscientific framework.

ALGEMENE COMPETENTIES

  1. The student can approach clinical syndromes from a (cognitive) neuroscientific framework.
  2. The student knows the underlying neurobiological basis of several commonly occurring clinical syndromes.
  3. The student expands his knowledge of biological psychological treatment methods.
  4. The student can apply his knowledge about the neural correlates of clinical syndromes to the diagnosis and the treatment.
  5. The student can critically reflect upon (cognitive) neuroscientific research and treatment methods with clinical populations.
  6. The student is able to make a group assignment in which he/she can critically reflect upon a clinical issue from a (cognitive) neuroscientific approach.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
PRAC Teamwork determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Both the exam and group assignment are mandatory. If no marks are obtained for either the exam or the group assignment, this will be scored as an absence (AFW) for the entire course.

The exam consists of a written multiple-choice exam. The multiple-choice exam will be graded by positive scoring with Higher Pass Mark. For specific information regarding the group assignment, please consult Canvas. The use of generative AI is permitted to a limited extent in this assignment.

Transfer of separate marks on the exam or group assignment to the second examination period/next academic year can be obtained when the score is at least 10/20.

Separate marks on the exam or group assignment will not be rounded up.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
