In the course ‘Social Security, Legislation, Deontology and Bioethics’ the student gets acquainted with how laws influence the profession of community pharmacist. The reimbursement legislation of products delivered in a community pharmacy will be studied as well. Starting from real-life cases and a day animated by the Order of Pharmacists will illustrate the deontological code. Finally, the student will gain insight in current ethical subjects linked to the profession of community pharmacist. Social security The student gets acquainted with the reimbursement legislation of drugs, compounded preparations, medical nutrition, medical devices and ‘small’ medical equipment (‘bandagisterie’). Legislation In this course the student discovers which legal texts influence the daily practice as a community pharmacy. We’ll study the role of the pharmacist in society and his relation to other health workers, we discuss what the legislator expects on different levels: quality, security and privacy. The specific legislation regarding products delivered in a community pharmacy will be covered as well: drugs, narcotic drugs, nutritional supplements, phytotherapeutics, medical devices and cosmetics. Finally, the student will get acquainted with the laws regarding opening, closing, transferring and fusion of pharmacies. Deontology The student gets acquainted with the Order of Pharmacists and its Deontological Code. In this course, the student will understand working with real-life cases how a pharmacist should act and which sanctions can be applied if he breaks the code. An important topic is publicity. Bioethics In the Bioethics course the student gains insight in ethical subjects like: patient rights, the moral status of a fetus, life’s end, e-health, m-health, vaccination, transplantation, big data and privacy. |
