Course Content

This course consists of two parts: in a first part, the metropolitan context is discussed. In the second part we will critically examine the importance of culture and intercultural processes. We explore how cultural identities are shaped in everyday live and how cultural identity influences the way people enact.

General themes that are discussed include:
- (Super)diversity (different 'forms' of cultural differences)
- Intersectionality
- Metropolitan challenges (social inclusion and exclusion; poverty)
- Culture and intercultural communication

Themes related to clinical psychology are a.o.
- Fair diagnostics
- Psychological impact of migration

Learning Outcomes

Algemene competenties

Students learn to to analyze underlying assumptions in cross-cultural psychology
Students are aware of the consequences that underlying assumptions have for research and practice.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Written exam: mainly multiple choice questions. A take-home test is also provided, in which the students prepare an assignment prior to the actual exam that is submitted no later than the day of the exam. The assignment counts as an exam question and is on 15 out of 100 points.
