A field visit day should be organized according to the possibilities.

Learning Outcomes

Algemene competenties

At the end of the course, the students will be able to:

- describe the basic geological processes

- identify the main minerals and rocks encountered on Earth surface

- describe the basic principles of geophysical methods and their contributions in geotechnical engineering

- explain how the geological conditions, the heterogeneity and the behaviour of geological materials influence some civil engineering applications

- propose the geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological and geophysical tests to perform to identify the geotechnical hazards associated with a civil engineering project

- analyse geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological and geophysical data to identify the geotechnical properties associated with a civil engineering project

General competences

The Master of Science in Engineering has in-depth knowledge and understanding of exact sciences with the specificity of their application to engineering.

The Master of Science in Engineering can think critically about and evaluate projects, systems and processes, particularly when based on incomplete, contradictory and/or redundant information.

The Master of Science in Engineering has a critical attitude towards one’s own results and those of others.

The Master of Science in Engineering has an attitude of life-long learning as needed for the future development of his/her career.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering can design (conceptually and quantitatively) geotechnical structures by applying the fundamental concepts of soil mechanics.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering – Option Construction and Geomaterials can integrate the behaviour of geomaterial as a construction or a geological material in complex civil engineering problems.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.
