Assessment
First examination period
Written exam (60%): assessment of reading, listening and writing skills as well as of grammatical skills, vocabulary and knowledge of idiomatic expressions.
Oral exam (40%): assessment of reading and speaking skills. The oral exam is an individual assignment on an Italian contemporary topic.
Second examination period
The assessment is identical to the one used during the first examination period.
Students are able to understand non-specialised texts and audio-visual messages in connection with the studied domains and cultural topics without great effort. They are capable of summarising these documents in simple words and of expressing their opinion in short, yet coherent talks or texts by using current expressions and an appropriate vocabulary. Students are also capable of putting the studied grammar into practice in diverse contexts without making obvious mistakes.

Assessment
First examination period
Continuous assessment (30%): vocabulary tests (Le prime 3000 parole italiane), exercises, presentations, writing assignments throughout the year.
Written exam (50%): this component consists of the following sub-components: reading and writing skills, mastery of grammar, vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.
Oral exam (20%): this component tests the student's speaking skills. The student brings a presentation of a topical theme from the Italian press in recent months and prepares a discussion around it.
Students who fail one or more sub-components receive the mark for the study component with the lowest result.
Students who fail each of the separate assessment components will receive 'absent' as their final mark for the course unit as a whole.
A student who has not (yet) passed 'Lingua 1' is strongly advised to contact the teaching team of the 'Lingua 2' course before enrolling in this course.
Passing 'Lingua II' does not imply that the student has acquired the unique learning outcomes for 'Lingua I'.
Second examination period
The assessment is identical to the one used during the first examination period, except that students not exempted from the assessment throughout the semester will take the vocabulary test (30%) together with the written exam.
