Course Content

The course content consists of the following parts: First, some basic concepts from German linguistics are explained. Then there is a deepening of German grammar and an introduction to German phonetics / phonology. The course covers the differences between written and spoken language. The course also includes grammar exercises.

Additional info

The course, the exercises and powerpoint presentations of the lecture are made available via the digital learning platform Canvas and/or via e-mail. The students are expected to also take notes with this study material during the lectures.

The lectures are in German.

 
Learning Outcomes

Algemene leerresultaten

The students get to know and understand the basic concepts of linguistics in German. They gain insight into the linguistic analyzes of the morphology and sentence structure of German. In addition, they acquire a basic knowledge of German phonology and of the phonetic script (IPA). The students can also apply this knowledge in grammar exercises.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 80 which comprises 100% of the final mark.
