Course Content

This course offers a basic introduction to endogenous multilingualism in Italy and an outline of the cultural implications, which historically arose from this situation. Recently emerged exogenous Italian multilingualism will also be illustrated. Brief survey of the modes of dissemination of Italian outside Italy.

Learning Outcomes

General Competences

The students acquire an initial knowledge (diatopic variety, external language history, neo-plurilinguism) and understanding (interrelationships) of the variation and variants of Italian. At the same time, in lectures and exercises, they can recognise and describe basic linguistic concepts and phenomena and explain the appearance of these phenomena in Italian language.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 70% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 30% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Mondeling examen with a relative weight of 70 which comprises 70% of the final mark.

    Note: Mondeling examen taalkunde.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Andere examen with a relative weight of 30 which comprises 30% of the final mark.

    Note: Medewerking tijdens de colleges en specifieke taak.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Weekly attendance in lectures is essential to understand the discussions. Preparation and cooperation during lectures will be evaluated by the lecturer.

Students must pass on all partial assessments in order to pass the entire section of study.
The final result for a student who does not complete all parts is "absent".
The results of parts for which students have passed may be carried over to the next term, but not to the next academic year.
Generative AI may not be used to generate output related to the evaluation task.
For the oral examination, students will be given written preparation time.
