Course Content

 

A first part of the lectures is devoted to a basic survey of general and long-standing features of Italian literature between the 14th and 20th century. The second part of the lectures deals with trends and texts in Italian narrative prose and poetry from 1980 to the present. Concepts taught in "Foundations of Literary Analysis" are also illustrated through appropriate Italian literary texts.

Learning Outcomes

General Competences

Students acquire an initial knowledge (trends, works, authors) and understanding (interrelationships) of Italian literature through the centuries, with a specific focus on the late 20th and 21st centuries. At the same time, in lectures and exercises on texts, they can recognise and describe basic literary concepts and phenomena and explain their function in texts: structures and forms from narrative as well as verse texts.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 80% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 20% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Oral exam with a relative weight of 80 which comprises 80% of the final mark.

    Note: Oral exam on literary history and texts.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Other exam with a relative weight of 20 which comprises 20% of the final mark.

    Note: Collaboration in classes and assignment.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Weekly preparation of the text extracts and weekly attendance at the lectures is compulsary (essential to understand the discussion about the texts). Text preparation and student collaboration during the lectures is evaluated by the teacher.

Students have to succeed in all parts of the evaluation procedure in order to obtain a pass mark for the whole course.

Student who fail to participate in all the parts of the evaluation procedure will be automatically marked as "absent".

Students can transfer to the next exam session the results of those parts of the evaluation process for which they have obtained a pass mark. These results can not be transferred to the following academic year.

At the oral exam, the students are granted with preparation time
