Inhoud

In this course, the student will learn how to write a concise and structured research proposal, based on the topic of the master thesis, and will get familiar with grant writing. Various parts of the research proposal will be introduced in a general info session and specific aspects will be more thoroughly discussed in 3 organized workshops (e.g., abstract, motivation letter). Attendance in the workshops is mandatory for all students, except for those students that are doing their Research Internship abroad for which an online alternative will be organized. Absence is only justified with a doctor's certificate. Detailed guidelines on how to write this Research Proposal Assignment and the deadline for submission will be communicated in time on Canvas.

General competences

This course contributes to the following Program-specific learning outcomes:

The Master in Biomedical Research has in-depth knowledge and insight into:

·         The clinical aspects of the main pathologies and the concomitant deviations in molecular, cellular and physiological processes in the human body.

·         The working mechanisms of current treatments and principles of drug discovery and development, prevention and diagnosis.

The Master in Biomedical Research can:

·         Formulate complex research questions, research the relevant literature and design a concise and structured research plan.

·         Write a research proposal which contain at least these elements: abstract, state of the art, objectives, motivation letter.

The Master in Biomedical Research has:

·         Insight into the (inter)national character of scientific research.

·         A critical attitude towards research data to distinguish correct scientific methods from pseudo-science.

·         An attitude of lifelong learning and is capable of self-assessment and application of self-learning strategies.

·         Sufficient communication skills in English to write grant proposals for research funding.

De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
Examen Schriftelijk bepaalt 100% van het eindcijfer

Binnen de categorie Examen Schriftelijk dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Examen Schriftelijk met een wegingsfactor 100 en aldus 100% van het totale eindcijfer.

    Toelichting: De beoordeling verloopt op basis van een onderzoeksvoorstel dat door de student wordt ingediend.

The students will be asked to submit a Research Proposal Assignment. Detailed guidelines on how to write this Research Proposal Assignment, and the deadline for submission will be communicated in time on Canvas. All practical information about the workshops is given during an info session at the start of the 2nd master (in October). The presentation used during this info session and all related documents are available on Canvas. Non-legitimate absence in the workshops or late submission of the Research Proposal Assignment will automatically result in a score of 0/20.
