Course Content

Modern and Contemporary Art offers a comprehensive survey of the major art movements from the late eighteenth century to the present day. Beginning with the French Revolution, the course navigates the dynamic shifts in art throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with brief explorations into key moments of twenty-first-century art.

Central to the course is the exploration of the evolving relationship between ‘old’ and ‘new’ media, alongside the intricate connections between art, mass culture, and politics. While the primary focus lies on Europe and the United States, ample examples will extend beyond this Eurocentric lens, offering a more inclusive perspective on global artistic developments.
