Overview of the study plan

The standard track in the Master of Science in Applied Sciences and Engineering: Applied Computer Science (120 ECTS) consists out of 4 modules:
- Compulsory Core Courses (61 ECTS)
- 21 ECTS from the module 'Smart Cities', the module 'Digital Health' or the module 'Digital Earth'
- 14 ECTS of elective courses from one or a combination of the following modules
Recommended elective courses (3-14 ECTS)
Option Entrepreneurship (0-12 ECTS)
Option Internship (0-6 ECTS)
- Master Thesis Applied Computer Science (24 ECTS)
Each of the modules should be successfully completed to obtain the master degree. The student should respect the specified registration requirements. The Curriculum Board strongly suggests the student to follow the standard learning track. Only this model track can guarantee a time schedule without overlaps of the compulsory course units. The Curriculum Board also strongly recommends to start with the introductory courses and to follow afterwards the advanced and specialised courses.

Students have to complete these compulsory courses (42 ECTS) in the 1st year of the model learning track (MA1).
Remark: 'Operating Systems and Security': this course in offered in 2 versions: a 1st semester version and a year version. Applied Computer Science students are only allowed to enroll for the year offer of this course (catalog number 4019815EER).

Module 'Smart Cities', 'Digital Health' or 'Digital Earth'

The students have to select the module 'Smart Cities' or the module 'Digital Health' or the module 'Digital Earth'. Each module defines a set of compulsory courses of 18 ECTS in year 1 and 3 ECTS in year 2. Students have to successfully achieve all compulsory courses from one of these modules.

Elective Courses MA Applied Computer Science

The program of the 2nd year of the standard learning track (MA2) covers the master thesis (24 ECTS), a set of compulsory core courses (19 ECTS), one remaining compulsory course from the module 'Smart Cities', 'Digital Health' or 'Digital Earth' (3 ECTS) and a set of elective courses (14 ECTS).
This module includes a set of recommended elective courses, a module with Entrepreneurial electives and an optional internship.
Students have to select at least 14 ECTS of electives in the 2nd year; the total load of the complete master program has to be at least 120 ECTS.
The elective courses must be related to the topic of the thesis and must be chosen preferably from the recommended electives listed hereunder. Courses from the Master in Applied Sciences and Engineering: Computer Science can be taken as well. Students who want to register for such courses cannot do this in Student’s Self Service, but have to contact their Faculty Secretariat first.
The student’s final selection of electives must always be approved by the Curriculum Board Master Applied Computer Science, that will check the prerequisites and the coherence of the student’s program.

To complete this module, students must obtain 14 ECTS credits.

2. the student has already successfully accomplished 45 ECTS of compulsory courses and elective courses of the master program (exemptions included).

Master Thesis MA Applied Computer Science.

The Master Thesis (24 ECTS) is compulsory. Registration for the Master Thesis is allowed provided that
1. the student doesn't have a combined bachelor-master enrollment
2. the student has already successfully accomplished 45 ECTS of compulsory courses of the master program (exemptions included).

From the courses listed below, students must obtain 24 ECTS credits.
