Optional Internships

Students can select one of the optional internships as part of their electives.

Students can select a long (10 ECTS, min. 10 weeks) or a short (5 ECTS, min. 5 weeks) internship, during the summer holidays between year 1 and year 2 of the master programme (= semester 1 version of the Internships) or during the summer holidays at the end of year 2 of the master programme (= semester 2 version of the Internships).
Students can spend the internship in a company or research institute inside or outside Belgium.

Students enrolled for the Long Internship have to take only 12 ECTS of Advanced Photonics Electives (instead of 16 ECTS) and only 12 ECTS of Multidisciplinary Engineering Electives (instead of 18 ECTS). Student enrolled for the Short Internship have to take 12 ECTS of Advanced Photonics Electives (instead of 16 ECTS) and only 17 ECTS of Multidisciplinary Engineering Electives (instead of 18 ECTS). Students enrolled for both Internships have to take 8 ECTS of Advanced Photonics Electives (instead of 16 ECTS) and only 12 ECTS of Multidisciplinary Engineering Electives (instead of 18 ECTS).

Each internship is offered in two versions: a 1st semester version and a 2nd semester version. These offers are identified by two different catalogue numbers, linked to the same course ID. Make sure to register with the correct catalogue number.

Long Internsnhip in Photonics: course ID 011569
- semester 1 offer: register for catalogue number: 4023546ENR
- semester 2 offer: register for catalogue number: 4023547ENR

Short Internship in Photonics: course ID 11573
- semester 1 offer: register for catalogue number: 4023550ENR
- semester 2 offer: register for catalogue number: 4023551ENR

Students who select the 1st semester offer, have to do the internship during the summer period between MA1 and MA2 and have to register for this 1st semester version at the start of the 1st semester of MA2, within the registration deadline included in the VUB Teaching and Examination Regulations (post-factum registration).

Students who select the 2nd semester offer, will do the internship during the summer period at the end of MA2 and have to register for this 2nd semester offer at the start of the 2nd semester of MA2, within the registration deadline included in the VUB Teaching and Examination Regulations (pre-factum registration).

Participation in an internship is not possible without a duly signed internship agreement!
