Overzicht inhoud van dit studieplan

The International Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering is an international English taught two-year program jointly organised by Universiteit Gent (UGent), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) (Belgium), Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (The Netherlands; coordinating university), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), the Czech Technical University of Prague (Czech Republic) and the Rhenisch-Westphalian Technical University of Aachen (Germany). It leads to a double degree. Degree seeking students study in (at least) two institutions in two different countries.

The program is made up of 4 semesters. In the 1st and the 2nd semester degree seeking students enrolled in the full-time standard learning track, must subscribe to 1 out of 5 modules of general courses (60 ECTS):
- Module Ghent University/Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium)
- Module Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (the Netherlands)
- Module Rhenisch-Westphalian Technical University of Aachen (Germany)
- Module Czech Technical University of Prague (Czech Republic)
- Module Trinity College Dublin (Ireland)

In the 3rd semester degree seeking students must subscribe to 1 of the following specialisations (30 ECTS), at another partner university than the one at which the general courses were taken:
- Specialisation Computational Methods for Medical Applications (Ghent University/Vrije Universiteit Brussel - Belgium)
- Specialisation Radiation Physics and Medical Imaging (Ghent University/Vrije Universiteit Brussel - Belgium)
- Specialisation Biomaterials (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen - the Netherlands)
- Specialisation Medical Physics (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen - the Netherlands)
- Specialisation Artificial and Bioartificial Organs (Rhenisch-Westphalian Technical University of Aachen - Germany)
- Specialisation Medical Instrumentation (Czech Technical University of Prague - Czech Republic)
- Specialisation Modern Physical Methods in Biomedical Engineering (Czech Technical University of Prague - Czech Republic)
- Specialisation Medical Imaging Instrumentation (Czech Technical University of Prague - Czech Republic)
- Specialisation Bone and Tissue Engineering (Trinity College Dublin - Ireland)
- Specialisation Neural Engineering (Trinity College Dublin - Ireland)

In the 4th semester degree seeking students must subscribe to a Master Thesis equalling 30 ECTS, to be achieved at the same partner institution as the one where the specialisation courses have been chosen or at one of the associated partners universities.

Degree seeking students who want to subscribe to course modules organised in Belgium, have to enroll at the Ghent University even though some courses are taught at VUB. The program at UGent and VUB is listed hereunder. Upon approval by the authorized Curriculum Board, degree seeking students of other engineering master programmes and 'guest' students can also register for these courses.
We refer to the CEMACUBE website for an overview of the programs with the different partner institutions.
