The standard track in the Master of Science in Architectural Engineering (BRUFACE) (120 ECTS) is built up modularly:
1) Compulsory Courses (75 ECTS)
2) Electives (21 ECTS)
3) Master Thesis (24 ECTS)
Each of the modules should be succesfully completed to obtain the master degree. The student must respect the specified registration requirements. The educational board strongly suggests the student to follow the standard learning track. Only this model track can guarantee a timeschedule without overlaps of the compulsory course units.
This module includes 75 ECTS of compulsory courses, 51 ECTS in the 1st year (MA1) and 24 ECTS in the 2nd year of the standard learning track (MA2). All submodules mentioned below must be successfully completed.
Compulsory Courses year 1 of the standard learning track in arch. engineering
These courses must be successfully completed in the 1st year of the standard learning track (MA1)..

Pre-defined Courses year 2 of the standard learning track in arch. engineering
The student must select and successfully complete three courses from the list mentioned below, in the 2nd year of the standard learning track (MA2).

Advanced Design Studio yr 2 of the standard learning track in arch. engineering
The Advanced Design Studio is a compulsory course that must be successfully completed in the 2nd year of the standard learning track (MA2).
From the courses listed below, students must obtain 12 ECTS credits.

Students must successfully complete 21 ECTS of elective courses, 9 ECTS in the 1st year of the standard learning track (MA1) and 12 ECTS in the 2nd year of the standard learning track (MA2). In MA2 at least 6 of the 12 ECTS must be selected from the list with specific elective courses and, upon approval by the authorized Curriculum Board, not more than 6 ECTS can be selected outside that list.
Elective Courses year 1 of the standard learning track Architectural Engineering
This module includes the elective courses of the 1st year. Students must successfully complete at least 9 ECTS of these electives, among this list exclusively, in the 1st year of the standard learning track (MA1). REMARK: ‘Soil Mechanics’ and ‘Form-active structures’ cannot be chosen by VUB ‘Bachelor in de ingenieurswetenschappen: architectuur‘ graduates.
From the courses listed below, students must obtain 9 ECTS credits.
Elective Courses year 2 of the standard learning track Architectural Engineering
This module includes the elective courses of the 2nd year. In the 2nd year of the full-time standard learning track, students must successfully complete 12 ECTS of electives, in addition to and different from those already accomplished in the 1st year. At least 6 ECTS must be selected from the following list, among the MA1 elective courses not chosen before, and the remaining courses from the MA2 pre-defined courses list not taken by the student. Upon preliminary approval by the Authorized Curriculum Board, not more than 6 ECTS can also be selected outside this list. Students who want to register for an elective outside this list, must contact their Faculty Secretariat.
REMARKS :
‘Soil Mechanics’ and ‘Form-active structures’ cannot be chosen by VUB ‘Bachelor in de ingenieurswetenschappen: architectuur‘ graduates.
Students who want to choose an internship have to select either the Internship worth 6 ECTS, either the Internship worth 10 ECTS.
From the courses listed below, students must obtain 33 ECTS credits.
The Master Thesis (24 ECTS) is compulsory. Registration for the Master Thesis is allowed provided that
1. the student doesn't have a combined bachelor-master enrollment
2. the student has already successfully accomplished 45 ECTS of compulsory courses of the master program (exemptions included).
