Course Content

The course consists of two separate parts. In the first part, classic teaching methods are used to discuss a specific aspect of international law and the law of international organizations. For the second part of the course all students have to make a paper. Students will be asked to analyze in depth a particular aspect of the issue dealt with in this course and to defend their paper in class. During the oral presentations of the other papers, each student is expected to act as a respondent. and to participate actively.

Learning Outcomes

General Competencies

The student knows and independently analyses principles and problems in international law.
The student critically reflects on problems in international law and formulates possible answers to these questions.
The student independently formulates a research question in the area of international law an conducts on this question.
The student reports in a clear end correct way on his major research results (orally and writing).

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
SELF Teamwork determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

Within the SELF Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:

Teamwork with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The teamwork consists of a paper, oral presentation of the paper, peer assessment and active participation.

Students can only take the oral exam if they have submitted their paper.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark

The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
