This course focuses basic immunology. Aspects covered are:
Prof Magez (24):
1) Building blocks of the immune system
2) Innate Immunity and recognition of pathogens early on into an immunological confrontation
3) Adaptive immunity at the level of B-cell biology
4) Antibody structure and function, including the link to the complement pathway
5) The link between B and T cells in the context of a maturing immune system
6) Immunological memory at the level of the B-cell
Invited lecturers (15h): Applications in immunology, Tumor immunology, architecture of immune organs, basics of insect immunology

Individual students prepare a topic on immune-parasitology that is presented in front of the class, and subjected to oral question by fellow students

To link individual immunological principles to biological outcomes in infectious disease settings as well as cancer settings
To be able to independently search and process scientific literature
