Course Content

The goal of ergonomics is to optimise the relation between the human and the environment.
This necessitates a multidisciplinary knowledge. From the students it is expected to analyse critically the working environment, taking into account the relation between the characteristics of the human and the characteristics of the task. Therefore, this course includes the following topics : general concepts of ergonomics (definition, history, legislation and ergonomics today), application (physical load, mental load and environmental factors). Also some ergonomic research methods are presented. Besides the contents of the course, it is expected from the students to prepare a writting task on one of the recent subjects in ergonomics. The choice of subject can be discussed with the instructor during the courses.

General competencies

To obtain insight and knowledge in the characteristics, context and most important applications of ergonomics; to obtain a critical view on recent, specific topics in ergonomics.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 70% of the final mark.
PRAC Paper determines 30% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 70% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Paper category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Task with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 30% of the final mark.

It is expected that students contribute during the exercices and tasks during the course.

Written exam = 70% of the results, the writting task is the additional 30%.
