This course focuses on parasitic infectious diseases, illustrating the complexity of appropriate diagnosis and therapy. Aspects covered are:
1) Description of the life cycles of parasites that cause serious health problems and their interaction with the immune system (Malaria, Leishmania, Trypanosomosis and Helminth infections)
2) The actual diagnosis and treatment of parasitic infections including their shorthcomings
3) Molecular mechanisms of serum resistance
4) Molecular mechanisms of antigenic variation
5) Immune interactions with host molecules
6) Molecular diagnosis
7) Molecular development of new anti-parasite drugs

To know the life cycle of the major human infective parasites and gain an understanding in the molecular principles that govern host-parasite interactions
