Course Content

This seminar teaches students basic cartographic and survey techniques to read and understand urban environments. It is a ‘hands on’ seminar in which students learn to use various techniques and apply these to a specific site or urban environment.

The seminar relies on graphical skills offered in the course 'Grafische vaardigheden - CAD'. Students with little or no graphical skills are advised to take up both these course simultaneously.

The 'Spatial Design' course in the second semester builds upon the analyses conducted in this course. In 'Spatial Design' students make an urban design for the same site that is the subject of this course. It is advisable to take up both courses within the same academic year.

  • functional maps
  • Nolli-map
  • Typological map
  • Morphological map
