Course Content

Using the different International Position statements concerning sports nutrition, evolution  of sports nutrition is documented.
Using International position stands from specific disciplines (soccer, athletics) complexity of sports nutrition is demonstrated.
Guideline concerning nutritional intake before-, during and after training and competition in different disciplines are discussed (endurance, power, disciplines with weight categories).
Special attention goes to the critical analysis of the efficiency of nutritional strategies in function of performance (sport drinks, supplement use…).
Finally the healthier options for sport nutrition components are discussed.

Practical sessions:
The student makes an analysis of his own nutritional needs (physical activity diary) and his nutritional intake (7 day diary and food frequency questionnaire) with regard to the recommendation in his or her own specific sport but equally with regard to the recommendations for a healthy nutrition.
After establishing the discrepancies between intake and recommendations corrections to the nutritional intake are proposed, re-analysed and compared with the different guidelines.
