Course Content

Four basic principles on professional ethics (respect, integrity, responsability and expertise), which constitute the basis of reflecting on ethics. Ethical reasoning and reflecting within the framework of ethical principles of psychologists and codes of conduct are illustrated and discussed using cases and with respect for patients, their acquaintances, the psychologist and society. Each of these principles is considered as a principle, a value and basic stance. Following topics are discussed in depth:

- To recognize ethical problems in a presented case in function of the psychologist's professional relationship with those involved
- Identify relevant legislation on ethical issues in cases
- Motivating the different action alternatives of a psychologist with regard to a case, taking into account those involved, themselves and society.
- Indicate how a psychologist can prevent situations as suggested in the case through preventive action and / or ethical reflection.
- To reflect critically
- Defend your own points of view in the interests of clients or patients

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Students with a Bachelor diploma in higher education in Hulanities who had an ethics course in that program may qualify for a partial exemption (3 ECTS). These students are required to submit a paper according to instructions provided (to replace the exam)
